The Cape Town 10s took place in Cape Town at Hamiltons Rugby Club from the 1st to the 3rd February 2024. It is a renowned multi-sport festival known for its energetic atmosphere and diverse range of activities. This years edition featured six main sports:
Rugby: The largest ten-a-side rugby tournament globally, attracting both amateur and professional players.
Netball: A fast-paced and competitive netball tournament with various skill levels represented.
Dodgeball: A fun and light-hearted dodgeball competition, perfect for teams looking for a good time.
Padel: A rapidly growing racquet sport offering a unique blend of strategy and power.
Water Polo: High-energy water polo matches showcasing teamwork and agility.
Run the 10s: A 10km charity run organized in partnership with Lace Up for Cancer.
But it is not all sport sport sport! The Cape Town 10s is also a superb place for a jol. The sport kicks off around 8 am, and the day has an after-party which goes on long past midnight. All the while, you have cold booze in your hand and great live music acts to watch. Remember again: Save water, drink beer.
Our Rugby boys had a ton of fun on the field and the Prime Panthers Netball Team played extremely well.
Play.co.za Cape Town 10s is South Africas biggest social sport and lifestyle event! Winning the 2016 Discovery Sport Industry Award for Best Live Experience Event in South Africa.
It is the brainchild of rugby legends Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck and long-standing mate Ron Rutland. Founded in 2008, starting off as a rugby only tournament the event has since evolved into a multi-sport event, with the addition of Netball in 2013, Beach Volleyball in 2016, Dodgeball in 2017, Hockey and Soccer in 2018 and running and esports in 2019.
The rugby component of 10s is billed as the biggest ten-a-side rugby tournament in the world, designed for fun but still underpinned by national and international rugby federation rules. The event has, over the years, featured some of the worlds greatest international rugby legends including Jonah Lomu, Carlos Spencer and Christian Cullen, as well as other global sporting stars such as Graeme Smith and Justin Kemp.
2018 marked the 10 Year Reunion of the Play.co.za Cape Town 10s! The event hosted 100 Rugby teams, 80 Netball teams, 60 Beach Volleyball teams, 20 Dodgeball teams, 14 Soccer teams, 10 Hockey teams, from all over South Africa and abroad, taking part.
